Antonia Peck 3rd in Houston USA for GB

05-03-2018

HH Sheikha Fatima Ladies race prize dist.

Antonia Peck defied the elements and managed to make it to the airport to ride for the UK in Houston Texas on Saturday 3 March in the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship. The severe weather disrupted travel plans for many of the Euroopean ladies and another bad weather front in the US itself stopped their lady rider from taking part with flights grounded on the East Coast.

Many congratulations to Antonia who enjoyed a fantastic trip and finished 3rd with Sweden’s Tina Henriksson victorious on UPTOWN SANDY GIRL denying Cindy Klinkenberg in a close finish.

Thanks as always to Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival, for these great opportunities for our lady riders which are hugely appreciated by us all.

What a Guy! Disney repeats Royal Artillery Gold Cup victory!

17-02-2018

Captain Guy Disney enjoyed another fairytale at Sandown yesterday when partnering last year’s victorious Rathlin Rose in the Royal Artillery Gold Cup to repeat an emotional victory.

Producing his horse with perfect timing, Guy patiently waited until the last before urging the 10-year-old up the hill to win comfortably.

Following his win, Guy said “I think when you’re on a horse like this who jumps, travels and has been round the course and distance, it’s lovely.  Look at his run in the Welsh National – he’s very good.  It’s very nice to ride a horse like that.  I saw Roddi Greene in the week – I’ve had a few bad falls this year – and I was just trying to calm things down a little bit. There’s more time than you think and you don’t have to rush.

“You can’t bottle the feeling of winning this race – I didn’t want to rest on my laurels from last year – and I’m chuffed for David [Pipe] and Fergus Wilson.

Regarding the connections between horse and servicemen, Disney added: “I think if you look back, there used to be such a connection between the horses and military. It’s not a real job for us – the majority of riders have been in Iraq, Afghanistan or Bosnia – and it’s great that the big trainers run horses in this race. It’s a real priviledge to take part.”

Huge congratulations to Guy on making history by recording the first back-to-back win of this wonderful race.

Drama at Chelmsford as Stewards demote winner in photo finish

16-02-2018

2018_20285_0

A dramatic finish to the opener at Chelmsford last night saw a photo finish between Antonia Peck aboard Laura Mongan’s TED’S BROTHER a nose in front of Harriet Lees on Kevin Ryan’s TAGUR with Simon Walker squeezed for room in third.  The result was the subject of a steward’s enquiry with the stewards subsequently and contraversially  reversing the first two placings which was questioned by Matt Chapman covering the meeting on At the Races.  It remains to be seen if an appeal will be lodged.

Tagur had been up with the pace all of the way but just lost out at the line.  It was the stewards’ opinion that Ted’s Brother had hampered Paddy A who in turn bumped Tagur.  However, on the head on it appeared Tagur had edged right helping to squeeze out Simon Walker on the favourite Paddy A.

Congratulations to Harriet Lees on her second win in 5 days.

Zac Baker stays ahead in the gentlemen’s jump tables

15-02-2018

Congratulations to leading amateur Zac Baker on a patient ride aboard Godfrey Maundrell’s mare Tambura in very testing conditions at Towcester on Valentine’s Day to record their 6th career win together in the mares’ hurdle.

Looking outpaced having been in touch in the early stages of the race, the mare renewed her efforts as they turned for home up the Towcester hill and galloped relentlessly to wear down her rivals and lead after jumping the last.

Many congratulations to winning connections.

Good day for amateurs at Kelso

26-01-2018

A great day for amateurs at Kelso yesterday with the opener, the Amateur Jockeys Association Handicap Hurdle won in fine style by a patiently ridden CRAIG STAR under Abbie Mccain for her father Donald.

On the heavy ground Abbie bided her time to take it up before the last and draw clear on the run-in and win by 5 lengths from long time leader UN GUET APENS and Kit Alexander. Abbie followed her winning ride with a great interview with Gordon Brown and her assessment of the other McCain runners of the afternoon proved to be spot on with the yard enjoying a treble on the day! Well done all.

The feature race of the afternoon, the P&G Allan Catering Novices’ Chase, saw the promising young Irish🇮🇪amateur Liam Quinlan on ACDC for Chris Grant track the other 2 runners in the race for most of the way, only forging ahead on the run-in to stay on strongly and win by half a length from Brian Hughes and VERY FIRST TIME. Many congratulations!

22-01-2018

Gina Andrews and Actinpieces win at Ludlow

19-01-2018

It always feels like a bonus for an amateur to enjoy a win against professionals when riding at Ludlow with our jockeys are so well catered for already within Ludlow’s racing calendar.

Well done to Gina Andrews on a great win there yesterday with her regular ride, the grey mare ACTINPIECES.

Cheltenham is possibly now on the agenda after this victory with trainer Pam Sly saying “I’ve one more race at Kempton in mind for her, then we might go for the Kim Muir, as long as she’s not too highly rated.”  Many congratulations to Gina and Pam.

Victory in the hunter chase was enjoyed by Lorcan Williams with Paul Nicholls’ VIRAK running in his first race of this kind in his career, his chase form having tailed off last season.

Congratulations to all winning connections.

Brodie Hampson wins again at Hereford with Cougar Kid

17-01-2018

Congratulations to Brodie Hampson on a great ride yesterday at Hereford when partnering COUGAR KID for John O’Shea in the myracing.com handicap hurdle.

Holding her horse up until making a move 3 from home, the partnership made steady headway to stay on well and win by 7 lengths.

This was their third success together this season and second as Hereford having won there in November, but yesterday’s performance was the most impressive yet.

Brodie said “It’s shocked me a little just how well he’s won as this was a step up in grade but John has done a great job in keeping him happy. He’s run over any trip and on any ground and as long as he’s happy he’ll try his best for you, but today is the best feeling he’s given me – he was really on his game.”

Well done Brodie and winning connections!
